Why timing is accelerating

Recent public moves show the direction of travel. Arizona State University announced a broad OpenAI collaboration across teaching and operations. SUNY introduced an AI literacy requirement across its system. These are signals that institutions are moving from isolated experiments to institution-wide posture.

The strategic risk is no longer waiting for AI to mature. The strategic risk is building fragmented deployments that cannot be governed or operationalized.

A practical first step

Start with a cross-functional operating use case where outcomes are measurable in one term: yield protection, first-year retention, or stop-out prevention. Then design the workflow end-to-end before selecting tools.

Institutions that begin with workflow architecture consistently achieve faster adoption and clearer ROI than institutions that begin with standalone features.
